Make Money While Making a Difference in Business
When you think about business in general, it’s making lots of money that probably springs to mind. And of course, that’s the aim of the game for anyone running their own company- but it doesn’t need to be the only source of motivation. Businesses get a bad rep for damaging the environment, turning into faceless corporations and creating a ‘rat race’ which many people spend their whole lives stuck in. But it doesn’t have to be this way, businesses can do great things for the world too. If you want to make a difference while making your fortune then here are some ideas to consider.
Science, Medicine, and Health
This is one way that businesses can make a big difference in the world. Coming up with new drugs, technology and healthcare can hugely improve the lives of the people you sell to. Whether you use deuterated compounds for pharmaceutical research or work on the engineering side of building new medical devices and equipment, these things can make a massive difference to people. It allows you to make money while making people well and in some cases even saving lives. Making profit might be your main motivation (especially since much research won’t be funded so you’ll need to make money) but the end result is something of genuine benefit to the world.
Education
What could be more rewarding than passing on skills and knowledge? It helps people to better themselves, and in turn, gives them the tools to then go out there and do great things or perhaps educate others. You could teach English to those that don’t speak it when arriving in the country or teach homeless or disadvantaged people how to use computers or create CVs. You could teach academic courses at a university or college or you could teach children. As a business owner, you don’t need to have this knowledge yourself, you would hire the right people who would run the courses for you. You could then run things from the top of your learning institution.
Eco/Green
Businesses are known for creating pollution, using tonnes of fossil fuels, releasing gases into the air, creating ground pollution and much more. But your business doesn’t have to be this way, in fact, it can be the complete opposite. An eco or green business helps the earth while still bringing in profit for you. You could become an organic caterer, bakery or other food business. You could start a recycling business, or use recycled or waste products in some way within your company. For example, reusing old coffee grounds from coffee shops to create soil products. You could create a business that manufactures biodegradable plastics or only uses materials from renewable resources. You could only buy Fairtrade and generally give back to the environment. As business owners, we have the opportunity to genuinely make a difference when it comes to our planet. Have a think about green business ideas or at least take steps within whatever business you create to reduce pollution and waste.
